Youth Leadership Congress Visits Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce

Students Listen to Kelli Lighthizer
On March 9th, we visited the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce in Westlake Village. The Community Relations & Events Director, Kelli Lighthizer, began the meeting with a brief introduction to her job. Ms. Lighthizer coordinates the chamber’s sponsorship events, like the upcoming Conejo Valley Restaurant Week, which features delicious fixed three-course dinners for an unbelievable $20, $30 or $40 per person, and the Spirit of Community Awards. Next, the President of the Board, Jill Lederer, and the Director of Governmental & Economic Affairs, Jan Smith, briefed us of how the chamber is the root of many businesses’ economic growth. They also reminded us of the importance of leadership and what it means to be a leader. We gave our own opinions and input, concluding that a good leader needs to promote economic vitality, be a dynamic speaker, and build good relationships. Overall, this was an extremely informative meeting on how our chamber of commerce runs and promotes our local businesses.
