Youth Congress Leadership Learns About Community Conscience

Youth Leadership Students Listen Attentively
Dee Crawford
Our visit to the Human Services Center center was very educational. The President of Community Conscience, Dee Crawford, gave us a brief introduction on the history and aims of Community Conscience which offers free rent to 12 charitable social service agencies in the Under One Roof building. She was followed by Michele Conaway from Interface Youth Services, Leanne Petras from Youth Employment Services, and Brenda King from the Women’s Resource Center. All of them informed us of services available to youth and openly extended their invitation to our group.

For example, Youth Employment Services offers free job search assistance and referrals for youth ages 14-22 and even includes employment counseling and pre-employment skills training seminars. As a group, we were taught how to properly sit in a chair and shake hands during a job interview. Ken Humphrey, the past President of Community Conscience gave us detailed information about some of the other services offered in the building. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience and helped us realize how valuable it is to have all these resources available in one place like Community Conscience.
