Youth Congress Leadership Visits East Valley Sheriff Station

On Wednesday, January 26^th 2011, Youth Congress paid a visit to the  East Valley Sheriff’s Station in Thousand Oaks. While listening to Senior Deputy Jim DeSoto, we learned what it is like to have a career in law enforcement. There are many difficult aspects to such a job, and  it takes much courage and dedication.  Sgt. Eric Hatlee explained the function of the police department and presented many statistics about crime.  The personnel at the Police and Sheriff Station really put into perspective what goes into becoming a police officer, and the jobs incorporated that go beyond traffic regulation. After the presentation, we were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the station and see the offices of many different departments. Overall it was a very enlightening visit, and we really appreciate the efforts made by Sgt. Hatlee and Senior Deputy DeSoto.
