Art Show Promotes Regional Art Museum

More than 150 artists and patrons attended a Juried Art Show and reception at the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery in Newbury Park, Sunday, November 7th. A first event hosted by the Regional Art Museum Task Force in partnership with the Thousand Oaks Art Association featured New West Symphony musicians, violinist Melissa Phelps and cellist John Fare.

Frank Schillo, former Ventura County Supervisor and RAM President, welcomed the crowd and introduced new charter members of the Regional Art Museum. Three cash prizes of $75 each for the Museum Choice Awards were presented: to Yoka Yohanna for her watercolor “Sequoia”; to Louisa Wallace Jacobs for her acrylic painting “Rocks Expanding”; and to Shela Levine for her mixed media piece, “Lady in Green.”

Conceptual renderings of the proposed museum by Architect Francisco Behr were displayed and RAM membership information offered. The Thousand Oaks Art Association features more than 40 local professional artists in its November membership show which continues at the gallery 11am-5pm daily (except Mondays and Thanksgiving) through November 28th. The T.O. Community Gallery is located at 2331 Borchard Road next to the Newbury Park Library.

The Regional Art Museum (RAM) is an initiative of the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation, which formed the Task Force led by Frank Schillo. RAM information is available at 805 409-3598 and on the RAM website, www.regionalartmuseum.org.
